Is the Cider Mill Still Open in November? Long's Hours, What's Fresh, and Why Late Season Is the Best Time to Go
Short answer: yes, every day through Thanksgiving Eve. Here is what the Cider Mill looks like once the pumpkin crowds thin out.
Updated November 3, 2026
The Cider Mill at Long Family Orchard in Commerce Township is open daily 9 to 7, Fridays from 7 am, through Thanksgiving Eve (Wednesday, November 25). No ticket, no admission. Hot donuts and fresh-pressed cider every day. The Fun Farm runs Saturdays and Sundays through November 15, then closes for the year.
Every fall the same question shows up in our inbox the first week of November: "Are you still open?" People assume a cider mill shuts down the minute Halloween is over. Ours does not. The press runs, the donut line runs, and the farm market shelf is full right up until the night before Thanksgiving. If anything, November is when the regulars come back, because the parking lot is easy and the donuts are the same.
Fridays from 7 am. Open through Thanksgiving Eve, November 25.
Last admission at 6. Final weekend is November 14 and 15.
The Cider Mill and farm market are free to walk into every day.
What You'll Find in the Cider Mill in November
Same barn, same donuts, shorter line.
- Hot cider donuts, all day. Made on site and sold while they are still warm. Everything about the donuts is here.
- Fresh-pressed cider. Pressed in the barn from our own apples, by the gallon or by the cup. Hot cider is the November move.
- Picked apples, 15 varieties. The late keepers like Northern Spy, Ida Red, Fuji and Evercrisp are at their best right now, which makes November the sleeper month for pie apples. Which apple is best for what.
- Pre-picked pumpkins out front of the Cider Mill every day while they last.
- Bobby's mums while they last, plus local honey, jams and apple butter on the market shelf.
- Thanksgiving orders. Cider and donuts by the dozen for the table, ordered in person at least 24 hours ahead.
Why November Is the Best Time to Visit a Michigan Cider Mill
October is the busy month for every cider mill in Michigan, ours included. Weekends in October are a family event: the Fun Farm, the corn maze, the hayride out to the pumpkin patch. November is a different trip. It is a cider and donut run, and it is better for it.
The line is short and the donuts are the same
The donut line runs all day in November exactly like it does in October. The difference is you walk up to it. Weekday mornings are the quietest time of the whole season.
Parking is easy
No October overflow, no walk from the back of the lot. Pull in, park by the barn, carry a gallon and a dozen back to the car.
Hot cider season
Cider slushes belong to September. By November the barn smells like hot cider and cinnamon sugar, which is the version most people picture when they think of a cider mill.
The best baking apples are in
Northern Spy and Ida Red are the pie apples, and they come in late. If you are baking for Thanksgiving, this is the window.
One last Fun Farm weekend
The Fun Farm is open Saturdays and Sundays through November 15. Two more weekends for the corn maze, the jumping pillows and the animals before they close for the year. Tickets are $18 online, $20 at the gate.
